Welcome to the smallest and weirdest “country” in the world. I am in Sealand, the independent state in the North Sea, eleven kilometers off England’s Suffolk coast.

The Principality of Sealand consists of two towers ten meters in diameter and protruding twenty meters above sea level with seven levels that contain living quarters, a gym, a brig, a chapel and a data haven filled with computer mainframes. A platform with a post office, a lounge, a kitchen, and a helipad links the two towers.

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Principality of Sealand, Sealandnews.com, the official newspaper of the smallest country in the world, launches the annual Sealand Awards.

The Sealand Award is an international award that will be given to artists, athletes and politicians to celebrate outstanding achievements and talent in entertainment, sports and humanitarianism.

This year’s honours list will be announced on the 1st of December and the winner of each category will be rewarded with an honorary noble title of the Principality of Sealand.
