The first Sealand postage stamps were issued in 1969, when a helicopter mail service was instituted between the Principality of Sealand and Brussels. Few stamp issues have been made since the early Seventies but Sealand postage stamps continue to be used, although in the age of e-mail and SMS the actual volume of such mail is small.

Sealand was founded as a sovereign Principality in 1967 in international waters.

The Principality of Sealand is unique. There is nothing in the world like it and it is certain that there never will be again.

The micro-nation is located in the southern part of the North Sea only six miles off the coast of England and from sixty-five to one hundred miles from the coasts of Belgium, France, Holland and Germany.

Within a radius of 500 miles of the Principality live more than two hundred million people, enjoying the highest living standards in the world. This area also encompasses the industrial and financial heart of the EU. Since the Principality of Sealand is a Free Trade zone and no Customs duties or Gaming restrictions can be imposed, the potential of the artificial island is enormous.

Sealand is ideal for internet business, as there are few regulations.

The Principality has granted Havenco an exclusive license to provide Local Internet Registry and information service facilities within the country in May 2000 and Havenco has been providing internet services ever since, offering the world’s most secure data centre.

  • Every person has the right to justice and liberty.
  • Every person has the right to exercise their own beliefs provided that such beliefs do not infringe upon the beliefs and wellbeing of others.

  • The legal system is based on the British Common Law and the British Law of Contract with certain exceptions.
  • All individuals are equal before the law and no one may suffer prejudice for any reason.
  • Any Ordinance passed in Sealand by the Senate properly constituted will exclude and take precedence over such Laws.
  • The National language of the Principality of Sealand is English. All official documents must be in that language.
  • All companies registered in Sealand are subject to the same laws.
