SEALAND TO HOST 2013 MICROLYMPICS?

Sealand will throw its hat in the ring for the 2013 Microlympic Summergames, the biggest international sports event for tiny nations like Nauru, Vatican City, Turalu and the Kingdom of Talossa.

Sealand seems like an ideal candidate to host the games according to an informed source. “Using the high-tech facilities of HavenCo to broadcast the events via internet is a no-brainer. Even though space is extremely limited on the island, there’s enough room for disciplines like Table Tennis, Darts, Weightlifting, Table Football, Snooker and Clay Pigeon Shooting. And then there are of course aquatics disciplines like Yachting, Marathon Water Surface Walking, High Sea Surfing, Diving, Rowing, Channel Swimming and Synchronised Swimming. We can even have Fancy Diving into the sea right off the platform!”

The Principality’s involvement in international sports events dates way back to 2003 when Sealand formed an international soccer team (hosted by the Danish team in Vestbjerg).

Also in 2003, runner Darren Blackburn of Canada was appointed with the title of “Athleta Principalitas”, and became Sealand’s first official athlete.

“Running for Sealand at the Summer Olympics is a big deal, knowing that what they did was so incredibly difficult – founding a nation on an old World War II platform in the middle of the ocean,” he told the Toronto Star in 2004.

Sealand entered the field of slot car racing in 2006 and finished 7^th at the 24 Le Mans racing in Derby.

The Principality has been represented on the World Mini-golf Tour by Anthony Pope and Peter Emmerson who finished 23rd and 15th respectively in the 2006 World Crazy Golf Championships held in the U. K. Sealand also scored its first tournament win when Anthony Pope won the Brighton Invitational Competition in August 2006. The Sealand Invitational Tournament 2006, a Ryder Cup-style doubles event, was won by Matthew Lelliot and Richard Penfound of Team Brighton.

Just a quick point, diving off Sealand will nearly always result in a fatality. Firstly the current that moves through the legs is extremely fast, also the 59 foot drop into 15 foot of water means you would probably shatter your legs and spine. Finally there is 60 years worth of debris surrounding the fort including unexploded munitions that you would not want to contact.
